Blog Buttons

I visited The Happy Card Encouragment Factory blog http://www.happycardfactory.blogspot.com/  and noticed she had a button that matched her blog, and I was able to copy the code under it and post it on my blog.  I really wanted to make my own button, because I have a specific theme to my blog, so I asked Becki how she got hers.  She directed my to a website http://www.musingsofahousewife.com/2009/03/how-to-design-a-blog-button.html , by Jo-Lynne, who has awesome tutorials on how to design/create your own button.  I have adobe photoshop elements, which is where I designed my button, but then I realized I didn't know how to I turn my button into a link. Jo-Lynne has got it covered...this is the direct website to create a button code that sits under your button so others can copy it onto their blog. http://www.musingsofahousewife.com/2009/03/how-to-design-a-blog-button.html I will say it took me about 3 hours, from creating my button ...

Cabana Card

Image
Boy was this fun to craft...scroll down to see how I made it! This is my newest very fun tropical party card!  My inspiration for this card was my blog title...Crafty Cabana. I wanted to create something that displayed the cabana feel and this is where my inspiration took me. I combined two cards (an 8 1/2" x 11" paper cut in half horizontally and each folded and taped together) Next I found some really great SVG kits: the Mahalo, and Mahalo Nui Loa from Lettering Delights , and the Hula Girl and waves which are free SVGs file from SVG Cuts.  After I had these basic elements, I had to come up with something that would make the card stand out or pop, so I refered to my Pop-Up Book by Paul Jackson which demonstrated how to make a cylinder lay flat when closed and pops out when opened.  I used that base to create my Tiki Bar.  I added a ledge (with a drink) and for the thatched roof I cut stripes from yellow paper (without cutting all the...

Movie Card

Image
I have a friend who has been overseas for quite a while now, and I wanted to make him something rather than buy a generic item that he may or may not like.  I was a little stumped on what I should do though, so I asked my husband, and as always, he comes up with a great idea in seconds.  He said to make a card like I always do, and base it around the movies, and add a gift card.  So this is what I created.  I can't take all the credit for the super cute design elements though, those were created by SVG Cuts  it's their Summer Blockbuster SVG kit .                                     and I think all of the elements are perfect.  I added the stars which are not included in the kit, by just using my shapes library in MTC and adding a shadow layer.  For the movie reel, I used cle...

My Brother's Birthday!

Image
My brother just turned 20 years old, he's the youngest of nine kids, no to mention the only boy!  He is working his way through college while keeping a full time job.  He loves turbo cars, in fact he has two right now, so I took my inspiration for his birthday card from the freebie at SVG cuts (Click on the title to direct you to the link) to give him a custom paint job...well the only kind I can afford anyway.  I love my brother and this is the card I made him. It's a front step up card and I extended the top so that I could fit the circle...which kinda resembles a red tire...I should have made his car have red tires...that would have been adventurous!  But then again, it would have blended with the color of the car...so maybe next time it will be a white car with red tires!

Big Sister Stand-Up Card

Image
This is a card I made for a girl who was not going to be an only child anymore.  She was at the babyshower for her new baby sister, so I wanted her to have something special too.  I made her this card and gave her a little gift bag full of goodies that any 8 year old girl would love. The card folds flat, put pops open and then rests in a slit at the back. I created a scene in the back to show off the 3-D look of it. I just love making these types of card because you can make them any theme and it looks so cool. Below is the template for an 8.5"x 11" paper...just make sure that when you cut out the inside rectangle you don't cut where the dotted lines are...that's where it folds and stays together. I'd love to see anyone else's take on this stand up card. Hint...Cut slits in the inside rectangle to stick letters or cut out shapes through, just make sure you make a tail so it can stick through the slit.

Fruity Birthday Card with Waterfall Inside

Image
I just love the fresh fruit look of this card.  I used SVGs from Lettering Delight's summer treats   . For the inside I wanted to create an interactive card, so I made a waterfall with my sister's name and some more fun fruit. After you pull the letters down, you can write a secret message on the pull down flap.

Summer Wedding Card

Here is a fun summery wedding card I used tracing paper to give it a layered look. Some pearls and paper flowers finish off the dress.
